food and drink with francis and co.

"place your bet" -MeD

Francis was in town. met his girl. met his cousin from toronto. met his cousin's girl. nicole's working it out with arya, eh. good times in the mission. except, the pinball machine jacked francis's quarters.

Riams Biaatch!

i remember when...

mark hamill was my idol.

i'm such an idiot. don't go tanning with a towel wrapped around your head... and knowing you're taking class pictures the next day.

it took me 30 mins. just to get my hair perfect.

SF Ronald McDonald House annual dinner gala. Ronald was a no show. bummer.

sammy? or mr t.?

nice place yeah

last min., shirley needed to fill a vacant seat at her table at the ronald mcdonald house annual dinner gala. free food, free drinks, amazing prizes, and an opportunity to doll it up a bit- how could i deny the invitation!
and apparently jeff is now her bf. how cute haha.
some quirky notables:
they had hired dean martin and sammy davis jr look-alikes. creepy i say. dean martin looked like plastic face... even from 200ft away!
the hors douvres were amazing. and so was the dinner... and so was the dessert pickings. except, the lil bon bon's on a stick at the end. um, since when does salt on chocolate covered ice cream taste good. oh man, you shouldve seen my face.
Cheryl Jennings was the MC, ABC7 news anchor lady. shyeah, like i knew who she was.

on a serious note, the auction was interesting. seeing for the first time live bidding for prizes in the thousands. ballers. one day, just remember.....
but aside from that, the most profound part of that segment was when they started "auctioning" pledges, just straight monetary donations from the audience that go to the Ronald mcdonald house of SF. so many people raised their "paddles" up for it. i'm glad to see that humanity still has some integrity left after all the mad rush for trips to the caribbean. yay philanthropic rich people.

school work- hooray, then... oh shit!

my pipes turned out pretty neat. yeah, i'll toot my own pipe. hey hey, get your mind out of the gutter.
then, i fucked up, twice. in my crossing borders (online) class, we had an assignment called Dyad Results. basically, we were paired up with another student and was supposed to "get to know" that person on topics such as where are you from, how have you been "othered" in life, what did you do in those cases, yada yada... and yada. then, we were each supposed to post our findings of each other in the designated discussion section online, in the third person i.e. "Won is from Korea, he is new to America. He once was hit on by a transvestite and he liked it. What was actually bad about the situation was that....." ok, enough. :) anyway, the two fuck ups:

1. i apparently didnt realize that oct 17, the last day to post, was today. so the discussion section for this assignment was locked.
2. and this is the worst of the two... so i was planning to copy and paste the body of what Won wrote to me in his email answering his questions about himself, then edit select words of that pasted body to make it sound like i was "introducing him". um, but... i accidentally pressed Enter before i could do that. oops.

lesson learned- don't be lazy. but you know, i'm not too worried... bc this is my BS (not bachelor of science) class that wastes my designing time anyway :)

"you know how i know you are gay?"

"Ku'u Pua Mae'ole" -Keali Reichel

"Jappy Jap" -People Under the Stairs

i was at the gym- 24hr in the castro to be specific (because it's the closest one). i'm doing my thing, then i turn around to see on the contraption where you do oblique bends or lower back exercises two guys... yes, two guys simultaneously doing their side bends. apparently in the castro you don't have to wait in line.

but, I'M waiting.

oh goodness (that's said with a 'sigh')

damnit kanye. now hipster college kids across the country are going to be asking their parents for 1500 bucks to get this bike... where there's not even a track nearby. I really need to hit up the track now.

ps- i think the handlebars on this frame says it all.

Kanye West Bought Himself a Track Bike

kanye-west-track-bike-cinelli-vigorelli.jpg

It’s confirmed that Kanye West stopped into Trackstar this week to cop a new bike. It’s not one of the DQM x Trackstar track bikes either, but a Cinelli Vigorelli. No news yet on how it’s built up, but we can only imagine the finest components and bling.

Above, we ponder how Kanye West would look riding his new track bike in space. Prolly says that DQM already taught him how to skid, so he’s probably working on his Kevin Bacon dismounts by now.

Sunday the 12th... Blue Angels air show!

i was so loaded with homework that i was even debating if i should go check out the air show. thank God i went. zander even got to convince my other classmates to take a break and see this once in year event. and it was dope that claire brought her SLR. looking forward to the 200+ pics. i love jets! and with songs like "dreams" by sammy hagar playing on the loudspeakers... oooh wee, get's my heart racing! heart of a boy.

and this is irrelevant, but it just reminded me of how much i want this bike. harley davidson softail deluxe. i don't do crotch rockets.

saturday the 11th...

vintage vespa in a tonal setting.

it's important to note, the infamous red cup next to his feet.

the store's looking good. which reminds me, i need to watch garden state.

The Blue Angels

"oh fuck, the blue angels!" that's what i said as i was walking down van ness.
that was an hour and a half ago, and now i'm home they're still flying around! some shots taken from my window...

i got five on it.. 4 in formation just right above the landscape, and one at the top right.

i love it! i'm like 8 again. i was so into drawing jets (f-4 phantom, so sick) back then. then, top gun came out and i considered being a fighter pilot. just heard they're doing an air show this weekend. rad

Allan's first name is actually Micael

huh, had no idea. and it's pronounced mi-ca-el. three syllables, or two if the last two segments are a pronounced with a soft transition. yes.

so had dinner at chachacha since allan was in town. been there many times before and can eat my heart out. but for some reason, the food killed my mojo early.
he's applying to U.O.P dental school for next fall, so he drove up from SF proactively JUST so he can meet with the dean. a great reminder that you have to go beyond the standard procedures at times to get ahead of whatever game you're playing.
see you next fall bro!

TV slows down homework progress, but

some great quotes i've heard this morning on TV:

"...and we're supposed to be America's team. (Then) What's America all about?"
- Michael Irvin on the topic of the Dallas Cowboys past two decades of team/player controversy (such as Pacman Jones, T.O., and his own drug suspension in the 90's).

and a familiar quote that must be reminded to all of us as individuals on taking accountability...

"You point one finger at someone, and you have three pointing back at you." - some reverend interviewed by CNN on the topic of the American financial crisis.

i think that's me

"she's worth the trouble" -j.valentine

whoa.
anyhoots, it is damn sweaty hot in SF. and i'm wearing slippers. how is that working out? oh man... ill never forget one of the most embarassing moments RE slippers, hyperhidrosis, and my damn sister in HI.

so earlier today on the bus ride to the gym, this older man walks in and towards the back where i was sitting and was rockin a dope sweatshirt and playing air drums. 2 things to note as how this could be a reflection of myself when Im that older cool dad/uncle:
- his sweatshirt had all the 49ers super bowl rings printed on it. that's ahhht. that's something i'd rock, but of course, with the Dolphins instead of the niners.
- he was rockin out to his headphones playing the drums in the air and on his lap. that's what my dad does. and bc of him, that's what i do. but, i add a twist .. i occasionally hum or sing.

now rhino, im going to finish.
and i better win that red or green smiley face in class today.

Asian Art Museum

i had to go for a class assignment. Appreciative as I am, I still think this class (Crossing Borders) does not need to be structured the way it is for a graduate design program. maybe for an art history or sociology etc. major rather.
the museum was nice. but, i don't think it really represented as much as it could have, considering it is under the umbrella term "Asian."

I took a bunch of pics, but these are just some of the some.. of the ones i was fond of. (ill post more later. my computer network interweb links connectivity firewire system is not functioning correctly right now.)

sooo good

like The Pointer Sisters, I'm so excited.
man, i was in such a great mood today! it's amazing how certain results can affect your day. i could tell, when it was later in the afternoon at work, by the tone i had when i was interacting with customers was so much better haha

some
reasons-
my dodgers are finally headed back to the NLCS (20 years since!).
my dolphins won again!! they have more wins already than they had the all of last season. i'm calling it now- division champs.
Now i just gotta tell myself, "Rhino is not that hard."

just for you henry

not necessarily the whole city, but... k, let's just ask, why would you party down there? well...
1. if your friend from LA, who you haven't seen in a while, flew up for a DJ gig and invited you to come hang with him.
2. or just because you think it might be a cool idea.

not for #2 that's for sure. here are some thoughts i'd like to share- nothing new, just airing it out.
- what's with 90% of they guys wearing Ed Hardy shirts (and a size too small).
- why do all the girls (try to) look like porn stars.

It was good to see henry. i see him on avg. about once/year. he's still knows how to keep a party movin'.
Jeff came with me. so he's trying to find a new apt/place in the city bcause his company is making him leave his super pimp loft in the Forever 21 building. that's awesome... im such a proponent to friends moving/staying here.
anyway, at the end of the night, Jeff dreads to assume i'm gay.
gross.

balboa sushi house

i think that's what it's named... and certainly, it was like eating at "their" house. i was soo hungry around 10, late dinner, so i walked around my neighborhood looking for something of value.  and this place, i've always walked by but never had the courage to check it out. but this night.... i was desperate.  usually, i sneer at such an overload of trinkets, colors, foliage etc placed in such a confined space (or does it look confined bc of all the stuff?). but this one, i won't bash.  it actually was according to the charm or feel of like i was eating at their home (which is actually in daly city, as i asked.. cuz i needed to get to the bottom of this- was this their downstairs area converted into a restaurant?!). so no it's not their home. but the food was down right good.. donburi chicken. good size. good flavor. the timing was so good!

(pics not uploading. why)

Doyers!

did i mention the dodgers are about to be up 2 games to none against the Cubs?!!

oct. 2 VP debate thoughts

greetings. so i just finished watching the whole VP debate with Palin and Biden. (well, not wholly as i had to run back n forth to the kitchen to get my fries out of the oven and grab a PBR.)
as many the people of the US, high expectations of Palin were somewhat scarred based on her recent interviews with Couric and Gibson.  her performance tonight i felt seemed contrary in presentation and effect, YET I can't say she did much more beyond her character to sway me (and i hope for other viewers who might be on the fence still) for the better.  which is fine, because as any matured person would understand, it's hard to really exemplify changed values in a matter of a month, much less many years of adulthood.  what she did in contrast to her previous performances though was assert her points and confidence better. she gets "extra credit" for that.  yet what i do hope for is that many the simple minded and vulnerable viewers out there do not simply take her change of face as a means to solidify their uncertainty and lean towards their ticket.  sorry for the pessimistic attitude towards some human beings, but it's true right?
id like to add how much i've enjoyed being more extended in delving into this pres campaign this year in comparison to the past years of my consciousness. "extra credit" for me.

another thing.... what's all this "maverick" talk? there's only one Maverick i know, and his name is Lt. Pete Mitchell.

the hotness...

well... i still favor the original white/blue colorway (below). (damn i LOVE the white/blue colorway) but this'll do. thank you nike for retro-ing this, finally.

San Francisco summer

beautiful last weekend of september in the marina with the GG bridge in the background.  sunny with fog amidst the bridge- typical, but a part of why i love san francisco now.
(all that grass makes me want to run. you know it.)

oh palin

looks like i can't paste or embed the link ....
but look up the latest Tina Fey skit on youtube making fun of Palin's interview with Katie Couric.
wow.
looking forward to tomorrow night's VP debate. Biden, don't f-k up. actually, maybe all Biden may need to do is not talk!
